Dear All, after a nice holiday period, it is back to work! Here at the OneManProject also activities have been somewhat reduced by the fact that many of the suppliers or experts were out. So now we think that  we can again gain speed! Herunder is what we did as a team, enjoy!

 

Preparation for completely controlled flight

Dedicated computer for controlled flight and Ground control system installed: now we are going through the whole procedure in connecting all systems. In the guide it is well explained so we should be mastering it quickly. Way points and tracking will be done. Footage of this effort will demo the endless possibilities of such system for the precision agriculture, for emergency and firefighting.

 

Certification

On the topic of certification a lot of interesting results have been attained. For the manned version discussions have been held with the German authorities, With the Netherlands authorities (DGB). The road to go ahead is now clear: for the EU and for the USA.

 

For the RPAS system we will use existing RPAS certification framework of the Netherlands.  On the other hand we have made a visit to EASA. The experts clearly explained the future to come with respect to RPAS systems. There will be 3 categories each one with a more stringent certification as the operations and weight class increase.

 

Agricultural Drone project

End of the month the starting meeting for a Agridrone project will take place. Universities of wageningen and Twente will be engaged as well as 4 companies in the agri sector. The aim is ultimately to develop a certified agridrone that can perform a number of agri tasks. One of the issues is silent rotors, another is a redundant flight control system. We will also count with the main aviation institution of the Netherlands.

Range extender advancement

In order to make both the manned and RPAS version attractive for the prospective market, a flight time of at least 60 min is needed. Using Li-ion batteries a payload of 80 kg currently results in a flight duration of 10 minutes. So there is a clear need for a improvement. The alternatives are using Jets (light weight, but bad efficiency), wankel type motors (experimental) or 2 stroke engines (reliable light weight and high efficiency) or fuelcells (low power per weight, good energy per weight).

 

The study clearly indicates that new 2 stroke engines are good drivers for a light range extender. We visited various factories in Germany to discuss the possibilities. We are now in the selection. The beauty is that the type of aircraft motor can be watercooled. Interesting too is that the 2 stroke sector is using new injection techniques reducing pollution to the level of 4 stroke engines. We are currently discussing a specific generator system that is to be coupled to the engine, and await the quotation.

Flight control systems evaluation

For the flight control systems both for RPAS and manned version we definitively need to have the best. Software design needs to be of an aviation level and the systems should be having redundancy. We have evaluated a number of suppliers and are in discussion with them to make the best performance/cost choice.

 

All next generation components ready to pick

For the prof version business plan, we prepared a huge excel to bring in all component manufacturers and suppliers. It allows us to systematically compare and select. The Bplan activities are more and more detailed. So this is an on-going process. For angel investors this is also an interesting document. It will demo all elements of the business.

 

Landing skid engineering

For the design configurations a landing skid design has been started. It is a pleasure to see that there is still a lot of info on how to design these. It is not all IP.

Parachute
